Chukauni is a Nepali dish and is one of the most delicious and easy-to-cook dishes in Nepal. This dish requires 10 minutes to make and yogurt is used as a primary ingredient in it. About Chukauni
Chukauni is a Nepali dish made by blending boiled potatoes with creamy curd which will make for a refreshing food. This dish is typically cooked with a combination of spices such as chilli powder, cumin powder and roasted sesame powder. For the taste of the dish, seasonings such as sichuan peppercorn powder and mustard powder are also added. Ginger and garlic can be added to increase the taste of Chukauni. Every Nepali household has a different recipe for Chukauni, which enhances its taste.
Ingredients for the Chukauni dish
1. Yogurt – 400 ml
2. Onion – 1
3. Green Chilli – 3
4. Potato – 3 (cooked)
5. Lemon juice – adjust according to the sourness of your curd.
6. Chopped Coriander – 1/2 cup
7. Chilli Powder – 1/2 tsp
8. Cumin Powder – 1/2 tsp
9. Roasted White Sesame Powder – 3 tbsp
10. Salt
11. Mustard Oil / Gingelly Oil – 4 tbsp
12. Fenugreek – 1/2 tsp
13. Turmeric Powder – 1/4 tsp
Recipe for Chukauni
To cook Chukauni, you have to first put curd in a bowl and add sesame powder. Then add chilli powder, cumin powder and salt to the mixture. Now, add the boiled potatoes, chopped onions, green chillies, lemon juice and chopped coriander to the mixture. Now, mix all the ingredients properly. After completing these steps, heat oil, add fenugreek seeds and turmeric powder to it. Now, prepare the tadka (tempering) of these ingredients and mix it in the bowl with curd. Now, serve this hot and piping dish with rice.
