New Delhi: Torrent Power Ltd has received the letter of award from Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Ltd. for long-term supply of 2,000 MW from pumped hydro storage plant.
This includes 1,500 MW capacity for which the letter of intent was issued by MSEDCL on September 17, the Ahmedabad-based company said on Tuesday, adding it has now received allotment of and additional 500 MW capacity under the tender to take the total capacity allocated to 2,000 MW.
MSEDCL will source power from Torrent’s pumped hydro storage capacity being built in Maharashtra for 40 years.
Under the energy storage facility agreement (ESFA), the company shall make available to MSEDCL a contracted capacity of 2,000 MW capable of scheduled discharge of 8 hours (with maximum continuous 5 hours) per day. The input energy for charging shall be provided by MSEDCL.
Torrent Power plans to install 5-8 gogawatts of pumped storage power projects entailing investment of Rs 25,000-35,000 crore. Its is also working on other green energy pathways such as green hydrogen and green ammonia projects.
